A week of camping and web technical problems

This week I am adding to the front page only one updated story, which is about the infamous DeLorean DMC-12. That’s all I had time for because I had been camping most of the week. Then, after getting back to town, an odd sequence of technical issues has distracted me from posting new content. So I present to you the art of the possible.

I chose to update the DeLorean story because it strikes me as one of my better efforts . . . but it did not generate much traffic when previously posted on the front page. That’s one of the weird paradoxes of Internet publishing — there sometimes isn’t much correlation between the amount of time and thought invested in an article versus the size of its readership. Perhaps this helps explain why commercial auto media so often resort to clickbait (go here for further discussion).

Indie Auto has been offline more often than usual

On the technical front, the biggest problem I have been experiencing has been a jittery hosting service. Indie Auto has been offline for an unusually large amount of time over the last three weeks. That doesn’t just keep you from reading the website — I can’t update the front page. My hope is that the frequent down times are a product of my hosting service, Bluehost, switching to a new server this week. So perhaps things will soon get back to normal. If not, I may be looking for a new hosting service.

I would like to thank those of you who have offered your thoughts about the quality of automotive history discussions on the web. I would typically repost a longer reader comment as a separate letter to the editor, but I don’t want to break the flow of this particular conversion. Thus, I would invite you to check it out (go here). What’s your take?
