Studebaker Lark V8 is a ‘little mountain goat’

1960 Studebaker Lark wagon

This letter is a response to our story, “1959 Studebaker: Throwing the baby out with the bath water.”

With all due respect I’m guessing that you have never driven a V8 powered Studebaker Lark. Much of your commentary regarding the Lark is valid but, you stop short of providing some balance by not recognizing the only V8 powered compact from 1959-61. It also ignores the performance options available for 1963-64.

I like you was not impressed by the stubby little Lark when it debuted. I was a Studebaker guy even though I owned several beater Larks early on, it took 30 years before I got my Dad’s low-mileage 1963 Daytona hardtop. For the last 30 years it has been a reliable companion as I drove throughout the West. It’s like a little mountain goat, and has never let me down.

I trust you enjoyed photographing and reading ‘Humprey’s’ story. At least you saw fit to use the pictures of my 1960 wagon in your article. To my surprise and pleasure he has developed quite a following around the Pacific Northwest.
