What’s new for January

This month’s lead story essentially explores the question: How come AMC died when it had such terrific designers? A related story offers commentary on a 2011 film about Fred Hudson, who was the chief exterior designer of AMC’s 1967 mid-sized cars and 1968 Javelin and AMX.

Our 1963-64 Studebaker Avanti article has been expanded. Additional text offers greater depth on a number of points and photographs have been added from the Milwaukee Art Museum’s fascinating Brooks Stevens archives. As discussed on the Introduction page, articles are continuously improved in response to new information I come across as well as your feedback.

A mini-book review of Six Men Who Built the Modern Auto Industry has been reposted. This is an intriguing history by now-retired Automotive News editor Richard A. Johnson that didn’t receive the attention it deserved when it was published in 2005. It’s still a worthwhile read.

I finally got around to pulling together a photo feature on LeMay’s 42nd Annual Car Show. My focus is the evolution of American car design from the mid-30s through the mid-70s.

Speaking of LeMay, this month’s Gallery showcases one of its prized possessions — a gorgeous 1937 Cord Westchester four-door sedan.

How often do you post?

The front page of this website is updated around the first of each month. Typically included is a mix of new and reposted material.

In addition, Indie Auto’s Facebook page and Twitter feed include a handful of “best of” stories from around the web. Lately new posts have been added roughly every other week.
