Automobile Quarterly back issues still available

The Society of Automotive Historians (2020) continues to post information about how to buy back issues of Automobile Quarterly. Fortunately, a vender obtained the magazine’s inventory after it ceased publication.

It’s too bad that Automobile Quarterly went out of business. This was one of the most respected publications in the field. In addition to a magazine, the parent company published a variety of well-regarded books. I think it fair to say that during its heyday, Automobile Quarterly played a major role in elevating the quality of automotive history.

Magazine’s demise marked by lack of communication

Aside from the back issues, all that remains of Automobile Quarterly is a Facebook page whose last entry was in 2012 . . . and does not explain the publication’s demise. Indeed, the Facebook page still advertises the last issue.

Automobile Quarterly’s demise was doubly heartbreaking because of the way it played out. Journalist Erik Killorin (2013) warned people to not send money to the magazine. The comments section of his article includes those who made that mistake.
