The U.S. automotive media tend to ignore or downplay the far-reaching impacts of the automobile on land use. That’s a significant oversight which helps to accentuate the auto industry’s strikingly insular attitude about basic issues such as how the car might be more efficiently integrated with other forms of transportation.

Automotive journalists would do well to purchase a membership to the American Planning Association, which is the leading professional association of land-use planners in the United States. The APA’s website, which is mostly behind a paywall, covers a wide range of federal, state and local issues that frequently involve transportation issues.
